Spotlight: Dr. Brooks Mendell of Forisk Consulting

Brooks MendellDr. Brooks Mendell, President and Founder of Forisk Consulting, is one of our regular article contributors on LANDTHINK.com, our sister site that is an authoritative online resource for advice, knowledge, opinions and trends related to land. He has earned B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA at the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Forest Finance at the University of Georgia. With more than twenty years of consulting, operating, and equity research experience in forestry, finance and the timber and bioenergy industries, he is LANDTHINK’s only contributing expert whose articles focus solely on these specific areas of the land industry.

ForiskFounded in 2004, Forisk Consulting has worked with clients and partners throughout the U.S. and in over a dozen countries to answer questions and support decisions associated with timber and timberland investments, wood procurement, forest industry and bioenergy investments, and forest operations. Dr. Mendell leads Forisk’s research program and his background includes roles in harvest operations and procurement with Weyerhaeuser, management consulting with Accenture, and as a member of the forestry and finance faculties at the University of Georgia. He is a member of the Boards of Directors for the Georgia Forestry Association and the University of Georgia Alumni Association.

In 2004, Dr. Mendell traveled to Uruguay as a Fulbright Scholar to teach courses in forest finance and to study the Uruguayan forest products industry.

For two consecutive years, Dr. Mendell has been an invited guest speaker at the LANDTHINK Summit in Atlanta, providing informative sessions on topics impacting the land industry.

Another interesting and little-known fact about Dr. Brooks Mendell is his interest in baseball. At MIT, he was was co-captain and co-MVP of the record setting 1993 baseball team. The MIT team set a school record for wins and led the NCAA in fielding percentage. He wrote a book titled Beaverball: A (Winning) Season With The MIT Baseball Team, detailing the story of a remarkable team of unlikely winners. Brooks and his wife, Elizabeth, have two daughters, Dani and Ellery, and currently reside in Athens, Georgia.
